This year all of the Jewish student organizations on campus are coordinating to hold our first ever Shabbat 1000. We're hoping to get 1000 students, Jewish or not, together in a room to have Shabbat dinner together. Be there on March 24th at 5:30 at Soldiers and Sailors to celebrate the first ever Shabbat 1000!
Shabbat is a weekly holy day which symbolizes G-d's day of rest following the six days of creation. Some Jews observe this holiday by abstaining from any form of work from sundown Friday to sundown on Saturday. Many Jews welcome Shabbat on Friday night by lighting candles and having a festive dinner.
Outreach is an integral part of this event. Even if you are a student who has never been to Hillel or a Shabbat Dinner, this program is an excellent chance to experience the weekly holiday of Shabbat.
Getting 1000 students together will surely be difficult, but it is certainly possible.
